The SANITAS Federation claims that there are pressures on employees in the healthcare system ahead of the general strike scheduled to begin on July 28. Union members are urging employees not to be intimidated and to support the protests against the salary law, which they say perpetuates salary inequalities among different professional categories in the system.
SANITAS representatives state that there have been reports of situations where employees have been discouraged from participating in union activities. "Pressures on employees have already begun. Do not let yourselves be intimidated!" the federation conveyed, according to a message published before the general strike.
Union members assert that the protest is not directed "against patients," emphasizing that emergencies and mandatory medical activities provided by law will be respected.
Among the employees' demands are the protection of incomes, maintenance of salary rights, better working conditions, and a salary law negotiated with the unions.
The general strike is preceded by a warning strike organized on July 20, after the SANITAS Federation accused the authorities of lacking a response and blocking dialogue with representatives of healthcare employees.
The general strike announced by the SANITAS Federation will affect approximately 400 hospitals and healthcare units in Romania, and union members assert that the protest is not directed "against patients," emphasizing that emergencies and mandatory medical activities provided by law will be respected.
