Finland offers Ukraine a new military package worth 290 million euros

The Finnish government announced on Tuesday a new €290 million military aid package for Ukraine, the 34th provided by Helsinki since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. The support brings the total value of Finland’s military assistance to Kyiv to approximately €3.6 billion.

The Finnish Ministry of Defence said the package contains equipment urgently requested by Ukraine and is the second-largest aid package Finland has provided to date. The exact contents of the aid, as well as the delivery method and schedule, have not been disclosed, as with previous packages, for security reasons.

Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen said Finland would continue to support Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression. Some of the equipment comes from Finnish military stocks, while other items are being procured from the domestic defence industry. According to the minister, these orders also contribute to strengthening the capacity of Finland’s industry.

According to the latest data from the Kiel Institute, Finland ranks sixth among European Union countries in terms of military aid to Ukraine as a share of GDP, after Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Sweden.
