Finland is preparing a new support package for Ukraine, which will include military, energy and humanitarian aid. The announcement was made in Kyiv by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following his meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The two countries signed seven documents, with a total value of approximately €300 million.
Defence cooperation will be expanded through the use of Finnish satellite technologies, considered important for Ukraine’s defence and resilience, as well as for Europe’s security. Zelenskyy mentioned discussions with representatives of Nokia and ICEYE.
Finland will also support Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Helsinki will provide ten locomotives to maintain rail services, allocate €5 million to the energy sector and provide a further €2 million in humanitarian aid ahead of the cold season.
Orpo announced that Finland is preparing its sixth defence package this year, following more than €500 million in military support. His country also intends to allocate up to €200 million for a joint agreement on drones. The Finnish prime minister called on Europe to abandon Russian gas as long as Moscow continues its war against Ukraine. At the end of the visit, Zelenskyy awarded him the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, Second Class.
