Germany has announced a new support package for Ukraine worth more than €1.35 billion during Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv. Most of the funds will be allocated to defense, while €350 million will finance the restoration of energy infrastructure ahead of the cold season.
Approximately €1 billion will go toward military support, including the production of interceptors and drones intended to counter Russian aerial threats. According to information presented by the Ukrainian side, Germany is expected to contribute to the production of approximately 2,000 Bars interceptors, designed to counter Russian jet-powered drones.
The package also includes joint projects between German and Ukrainian companies to develop and manufacture drones, including long-range systems. Merz’s visit to Kyiv is focused on expanding industrial cooperation in the defense sector.
The funds allocated to the energy sector will be used for generators, transformer substations, and equipment needed to repair the power grid. The support comes as preparations are underway for another winter, following repeated attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Berlin considers air defense and energy resilience essential for protecting the population and maintaining the operation of networks during the cold season.
