The President of the Botoșani County Council, Valeriu Iftime, was questioned on Tuesday at the Iași DNA headquarters, in the case in which Vaslui businessman Fănel Bogos is being investigated for incitement to blackmail and influence peddling. Iftime was summoned as a witness and stated, upon leaving the questioning, that he was not involved in the investigation.
Prosecutors questioned him about his relationship with Alexandru Bociu, president of the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), who has links to the case. The questioning lasted approximately an hour and a half. “I know Mr. Bociu very well, and this is probably why they are asking me whether there is an abuse issue. I am not involved in this case,” Iftime stated.
Upon arriving at the DNA headquarters, the head of the Botoșani County Council said that he did not know why he had been summoned and claimed that he had never met Fănel Bogos. He stated that he went to the questioning because he had been summoned.
In the same case, on September 10, Ciprian Ionuț Trifan, president of the Vaslui County Council, was also questioned. Fănel Bogos was detained in November 2025 and subsequently placed in pretrial detention, while since March 2026 he has been under judicial control. The case also concerns Cristina Trăilă, the Secretary-General of the Government, who is a suspect in the same investigation.
