SANITAS declares today an indefinite general strike / Hospitals will provide only essential medical assistance

The SANITAS Federation begins an indefinite general strike today, being dissatisfied with the draft of the new salary law and the lack of an agreement with the authorities. The union members accuse salary inequalities, income reductions, and a staff deficit estimated at over 30,000 positions in the public health system. SANITAS has reported pressures from institutional managers, who request lists of employees participating in the protest.

The strike will only ensure essential medical assistance, so as not to affect patients. The union members are asking the Government to amend the draft salary law and to resume dialogue, emphasizing that the protest is not a desired option, but a reaction to the authorities' refusal to consider their arguments. Over 500 hospitals will participate in the strike, ensuring the continuity of essential services.
