The UEFA Europa League final is coming to Bucharest once again! The National Arena will host the competition’s final in 2028. On Tuesday, September 15, the UEFA Executive Committee decided that Bucharest and the National Arena would host the 2028 UEFA Europa League final.
The National Arena will thus once again be at the center of European football’s attention in 2028, 16 years after the 2012 Europa League final. At that time, Atletico Madrid won the trophy after defeating Athletic Bilbao 3–0 in front of 52,347 spectators.
“Hosting the Europa League final in Bucharest represents the strongest signal of confidence from the UEFA President and my colleagues on the UEFA Executive Committee in the development strategy I proposed for professional club football in Romania. It is a unique window of opportunity for professional football in our country to enter a phase of acceleration in the coming years and capitalize on its full potential from a sporting, business, and social perspective.
Bucharest’s selection also represents a major event in sports diplomacy that will strengthen the country brand. This victory is yet another confirmation that when there is a shared vision, professionalism, and exemplary institutional cooperation, Romania can win the most important projects at international level,” said the president of the Romanian Football Federation, Răzvan Burleanu, according to frf.ro.
