Bucharest City Hall and Sector 2 City Hall approved a cooperation protocol on Thursday for the rehabilitation and modernization of the spaces around National Arena. The project aims to improve the area’s appearance and prepare the stadium for important events to be held here, including the 2028 UEFA Europa League final.
The municipality will provide the documents and studies needed for the landscaping works, while Sector 2 City Hall will carry out the construction. The plans include planting and pruning trees, renovating walkways, replacing street furniture and the irrigation system, as well as repairing the fence around the stadium.
Sector 2 will also take over cleaning activities in the park and snow removal in the area. Bucharest City Hall says that the green spaces and walkways are the first elements noticed by spectators attending matches and events, but they are currently in an unsatisfactory condition.
Bucharest was designated as the host city for the 2028 Europa League final following the decision of UEFA’s Executive Committee on September 15. National Arena previously hosted the competition’s final in 2012, won by Atletico Madrid 3–0 against Athletic Bilbao.
At the same time, work is being carried out at the stadium on the structure and roof, the replacement of LED screens, and the modernization of equipment for TV broadcasts. A new hybrid pitch, worth approximately two million lei, was also installed this summer.
