Sector 2 City Hall plans to begin redeveloping the first three of the 10 small squares in the historic central Armenian Quarter–Moșilor–Plantelor area in spring 2027. The project targets Popa Rusu–Corbeni Square, Popa Rusu–Licurg Square and Popa Chițu Square, and seeks to reduce the space allocated to cars in favor of pedestrians, vegetation and accessibility.

Mayor Rareș Hopincă said that work on each square could take approximately four months and is expected to be completed by early September 2027. Before the interventions begin, technical documentation, permits and building authorizations are required.

According to UrbanizeHub, the company that developed the technical proposals, at least 40% of the existing car space across the 10 squares is expected to be reconfigured for pedestrian use. The projects include removing or reorganizing some parking spaces, traffic-calming measures, tree planting and green areas capable of capturing rainwater. The concepts were developed as a continuation of a study carried out together with the World Bank in 2023 and were adjusted following consultations with residents.

The announcement comes after controversy surrounding other projects by the administration. In Obor, the promenade and bicycle lane were partially removed to maintain car traffic and introduce parking spaces. In Baicului, a project approved in 2026 provides for approximately 1,500 parking spaces, while a G4Media analysis indicated the elimination of nearly 5,000 square meters of existing green space.
