Romania will be placed in Pot 3 for the draw for the EURO 2028 qualifiers after losing all four matches played in Group B4 of the Nations League. The “Tricolors” have no points and can no longer move up to Pot 2, regardless of the results of their final matches.
The team coached by Gheorghe Hagi still have to play Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina in November. Romania can reach a maximum of six points, which would not be enough to overtake Bosnia, who currently have eight points. Sweden lead the group with 10 points, while Poland are third with four points.
The draw for the European Championship qualifiers will take place on December 6, 2026, in Belfast. The 55 UEFA national teams will be divided into 12 groups, with matches played between March and November 2027. The group winners and the eight best second-placed teams will qualify directly.
Romania also risk a playoff to remain in League B if they finish bottom of the group. The matches are expected to be played between March 25 and 30, 2027. To avoid the playoff, the national team must move up to third place.
In addition, following the defeat by Sweden, Romania dropped to 58th in the live FIFA rankings, their lowest position ever. The previous low was 57th, reached in September 2012.
