The SANITAS Federation is preparing to declare a general strike in the healthcare system, scheduled for Tuesday, July 28. Tomorrow, at 1:00 PM, the National Council of the Federation will meet to decide the details of the protest, with the main grievance being the proposal for the Salary Law.
According to union leaders, the strike will affect 400 hospitals in Romania, meaning the majority of public hospitals in Romania. The law requires a strike plan, which must ensure the continuity of emergency services, with at least one third of employees at work. The Federation has obtained a temporary suspension of the new Salary Law, but it is not a final decision.
Union members contest the persistent salary inequalities and the system of granting bonuses, which do not accurately reflect working conditions. They have also requested mediation from the President of Romania, but so far no meeting has taken place.
