Daniel Zamfir announces that PSD will propose Sorin Grindeanu for prime minister at consultations at Cotroceni

PSD will attend consultations at Cotroceni with a proposal for Sorin Grindeanu to be appointed prime minister, Social Democratic senator Daniel Zamfir said on Tuesday. He said the party is also considering forming a minority PSD government or a government formula built around PSD.

Zamfir ruled out, however, a national or technocratic government and said the party does not agree with reopening discussions about an independent prime minister. “That option has pretty much run its course,” the senator said of this possibility, arguing that an independent prime minister can no longer build a functioning majority at present.

According to Daniel Zamfir, the formula supported by PSD requires the prime minister to come from the party, while other political parties would also be included in the government. The senator recalled that, approximately four months ago, the Social Democrats would have accepted a technocratic government proposed around Ilie Bolojan, but that he allegedly rejected the formula.

According to Digi24 sources, President Nicușor Dan is expected to invite the parties to consultations on Wednesday to appoint the future prime minister. At the end of the talks, the head of state is expected to announce the prime minister-designate tasked with forming a new government.
