PSD Secretary General Claudiu Manda announced that the party is prepared to assume governing responsibilities and is proposing the party’s president, Sorin Grindeanu, for the position of prime minister. The statement was made ahead of the consultations convened by President Nicușor Dan at Cotroceni Palace, as the head of state is set to designate a new candidate for the position of prime minister.
“We are going to Cotroceni Palace today prepared to assume governing responsibilities. And our solution is clear: a PSD government or a government built around PSD, led by Sorin Grindeanu,” Claudiu Manda wrote on Facebook.
The Social Democrat’s proposal indicates PSD’s desire to lead the future Executive, either through a cabinet formed exclusively by the party or through a majority built around the party. However, Manda did not specify where the votes necessary to invest a PSD government or a government led by Sorin Grindeanu would come from.
The consultations at Cotroceni bring together the parliamentary parties, and at the end of the discussions President Nicușor Dan is expected to announce the name of the candidate for the post of prime minister. The designation will be followed by the formation of the Cabinet and the confidence vote in Parliament.
