Claudiu Manda announces that the PSD will not vote for the Siegfried Mureșan government and criticizes the statements made by the candidate for the position of prime minister

PSD Secretary-General Claudiu Manda said on Sunday evening that he would vote at the party leadership meeting on Monday against supporting a government led by Siegfried Mureșan. Manda criticized the prime ministerial candidate’s recent statements and said that he “doesn’t even want to be voted in.”

The PSD leader said the party had hoped Romania’s president would nominate a Social Democratic prime minister or a technocratic candidate around whom a government politically led by PSD could be formed. In the absence of such a proposal, the party leadership is due to debate its position on Monday, with Manda not anticipating any abandonment of the resolution previously adopted.

Manda argued that claims that PSD is not pro-European are “made up,” noting that one of the European commissioners is a Social Democrat. He said that if Siegfried Mureșan wants a dialogue with PSD or with the parliamentary groups, he must first submit an official request.

The PSD Secretary-General also criticized the intention to continue the policies of former Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, arguing that Romania would get “another Bolojan, somewhat younger.” He cited polls showing that most Romanians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction. Manda also claimed, without providing evidence, that Bolojan had come to power following a secret agreement with George Simion.
