Decisive meeting today at PSD. The Social Democrats are establishing their strategy regarding whether or not to support the PNL-USR-UDMR government

The leadership of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is meeting on Monday, September 21, to decide the party’s position regarding designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan and his future cabinet. The formation’s National Permanent Bureau has been convened for 11:00 a.m., and the Social Democrats will decide whether to enter negotiations and whether to grant the new Government a vote of investiture.

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu announced that he would propose that the party’s lawmakers not support the Executive. He criticized Mureșan’s designation and questioned his ability to quickly form a majority.

PSD is asking the designated prime minister to publicly present the political and economic direction of the future Government. The Social Democrats want to know whether it will continue the policies of the Bolojan Government, including fiscal and austerity measures, or whether it will propose changes to protect purchasing power, support Romanian companies, and maintain jobs.

PSD Secretary-General Claudiu Manda said that he would support rejecting the Mureșan Government within the party leadership, arguing that it would represent a continuation of the direction of the former Executive.
