PSD has officially decided how to vote on the Mureșan / Grindeanu Government: “We will not give in to any kind of media pressure”

The National Political Council of the PSD decided unanimously on Monday not to vote for the Mureșan Government, but the party's lawmakers will be present in plenary, in their seats.

“We will not give in to any kind of media pressure or political blackmail, and we will not let ourselves be intimidated by those who, with audacity, have filled the public space in recent days with fake news and accused us of all sorts of fabrications, solely to force a PSD vote for this government in Parliament. I will say it once again: there was a unanimous vote in the National Political Council not to vote for the Mureșan Government,” PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu declared.

The PSD National Political Council met on Monday, starting at 10:30 a.m., online, to decide whether the party would support the government proposed by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan. The vote took place amid the political crisis and the possibility of initiating the procedure for early elections.

A week ago, the PSD National Permanent Bureau recommended rejecting the Mureșan Cabinet. The recommendation must be validated by the National Political Council, the body that makes decisions in such situations.

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu has repeatedly stated that social-democrat lawmakers will not vote for the government and called on the designated prime minister to resign his mandate. Grindeanu warned that the party is prepared for early elections, although he pointed out that they should be avoided for economic reasons. The PSD leader also criticized the government program, saying that it does not provide concrete answers for local administration, the country's financial situation, and investment policy.

However, Siegfried Mureșan maintains that the PSD has reasons to vote for the cabinet, presented as a pro-European one. The designated prime minister says that the PNL, USR, and UDMR support the government, totaling 170 votes, and that he is holding talks with representatives of national minorities.

Mureșan warned that rejecting the government would deepen the political crisis and pave the way for early elections, which may be called by the President of Romania.
