PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu announced that the party would not vote for the government proposed by designated prime minister Siegfried Mureșan and that it was prepared for possible snap elections, amid the political deadlock in Bucharest. The statements were made after a meeting with the leaders of PSD organizations from Oltenia, in Craiova.
Grindeanu asked Mureșan to resign his mandate, arguing that Romania urgently needs a stable government and a serious political solution. The Social Democratic leader stated that the current nomination represents a “joke” and that the designated prime minister had not demonstrated that he wanted PSD’s support.
Although he says that his party is prepared for snap elections, Grindeanu believes that this scenario should be avoided because of the economic effects on Romania. According to the calculations he presented, if the procedure began next week or within the next two weeks, the elections could be held as early as February.
Grindeanu also criticized the government program presented by Mureșan, saying that it does not provide concrete answers regarding local administration, the financial situation, and investment policy.
