Sorin Grindeanu criticizes Siegfried Mureșan’s nomination as prime minister and convenes the PSD National Permanent Bureau

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu criticized on Thursday, September 17, the nomination of Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister of Romania, made by President Nicușor Dan after consultations with the parliamentary parties at Cotroceni Palace.

Grindeanu said that he received the proposal with “surprise and disappointment” and questioned Mureșan’s selection. The PSD leader claims that, just a few days before the nomination, the MEP had waged a “fierce campaign in Brussels against his own country to cut European funds.” The statement was not accompanied by additional details in the message.

In the same statement, Grindeanu criticized interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, whom he says is “clinging to his seat at any cost” and is blocking solutions to overcome the political crisis.

The PSD leader claims that the economic situation is difficult and that the budget deficit could exceed 30 billion lei, equivalent to approximately 1.5% of GDP. He announced that the PSD National Permanent Bureau would convene on Monday, September 21, to analyze the president’s proposal. Grindeanu specified that the party would assess the nomination while taking Romania’s interests into account.
