Sorin Grindeanu accuses Siegfried Mureșan of prolonging the political crisis and calls on him to resign from the European Parliament

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu accused designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan at Parliament on Wednesday of being “Ilie Bolojan’s pawn” and seeking to prolong the political crisis. Grindeanu argued that Mureșan does not actually want to secure the investiture vote and called on him to resign as a Member of the European Parliament.

The PSD leader said Mureșan must take responsibility for Romania, as he was elected on the joint PSD-PNL list. Grindeanu also invited him to the PSD headquarters for talks on the economy, arguing that the designated prime minister’s program offers no solutions to the country’s economic problems and criticizing him for allegedly being a version of Ilie Bolojan.

On Monday, the PSD decided at the National Political Bureau not to vote for the future government proposed by Mureșan. The designated prime minister said on Wednesday that he would not give up his mandate and would go to Parliament’s vote, even if the government’s rejection could pave the way for early elections.

Mureșan has so far met with lawmakers from the three parties supporting him. Discussions with representatives of national minorities and PSD lawmakers have not yet taken place.
