Sorin Grindeanu asks Siegfried Mureșan to resign: “Let’s not waste time”

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu asked designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan on Monday to quickly relinquish his mandate, following a meeting of the party’s National Permanent Bureau. The Social Democrats announced that they will not vote for a government led by him, considering that it would continue the political and economic direction of the former executive led by Ilie Bolojan.

Grindeanu says that Romania urgently needs a government to change the country’s direction and adopt a budget rectification. He specified that the PSD voted for the motion of no confidence against the Bolojan Government precisely to stop what he called a “wrong direction.”

The Social Democratic leader told Mureșan that, if he cannot form a majority without the PSD or does not wish to obtain votes from other political groups, the solution is to relinquish his mandate. Otherwise, Grindeanu warned that a new nomination by the president or the launch of the procedure for early elections could be considered.

Sorin Grindeanu insisted that the PSD’s position has nothing to do with the person of the designated prime minister, but with the proposed program and method of governance. The PSD’s National Permanent Bureau met on Monday to analyze the nomination made by President Nicușor Dan.
