Sorin Grindeanu, on the appointment of Siegfried Mureșan as prime minister: “He will go down gloriously in Parliament”

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu announced Thursday evening that he opposes the formation of a government led by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan and that he will recommend that the Social Democrats reject his investiture in Parliament.

Speaking on România TV, Grindeanu argued that the liberal MEP does not appear prepared for the position of prime minister and accused him of “betraying Romania and the Romanian people.” The PSD leader stated that Mureșan “seems to be gasping for breath” and mocked the preparation period, which he said was marked by numerous Facebook posts.

Grindeanu said that he would convene the PSD’s National Permanent Bureau on Monday. He stated that, although he would present his own position, the final decision would belong to the party’s statutory bodies. According to him, several PSD county leaders had already spoken out against supporting the government.

The Social Democratic leader anticipated that Mureșan would receive a very small number of votes in the investiture vote, saying that he would “fall gloriously in Parliament.”

President Nicușor Dan nominated Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister on Thursday, and the liberal MEP accepted the proposal.
