Sorin Grindeanu asks Siegfried Mureșan to resign after he failed to come to the PSD headquarters

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu asked Siegfried Mureșan on Wednesday to resign his mandate as prime minister-designate after he failed to come to the party headquarters to present the government program. Grindeanu said that, under these circumstances, Mureșan cannot secure the votes of Social Democratic lawmakers.

The PSD leader said he had waited for Mureșan both at his office in the Chamber of Deputies and at the party headquarters. He specified that the party did not expect the program to be finalized, but only for its main directions to be presented.

Grindeanu said Mureșan’s absence confirms the PSD’s impression that he does not genuinely want the position of prime minister. He asked him to shorten the period of uncertainty and give up his mandate, allowing the president to decide on the next steps: a new nomination or the launch of the procedure for early elections, if Parliament rejects the successive proposals.

The Social Democratic leader said that the PSD had been open to dialogue and had moved past the political conflicts of the summer, but insisted that negotiations must be replaced by a government program and concrete arguments.
