Siegfried Mureșan explains why he did not go to the PSD headquarters for the meeting with Sorin Grindeanu

Prime minister-designate Siegfried Mureșan explained on Wednesday why he did not go to the PSD headquarters to meet the party’s president, Sorin Grindeanu. Mureșan said that no meeting had been scheduled for a specific time or at a specific location, and that he considered it natural for discussions on the Government’s investiture to take place in Parliament.

According to the prime minister-designate, the two spoke by phone at around 11:30 a.m. Grindeanu reportedly asked him for the main elements of the governing program, and Mureșan said that the document was still being prepared. After a press conference and meetings with the parliamentary groups of the PNL, USR, UDMR and minorities, he finalized the guidelines and sent them to Grindeanu between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., subsequently making them public.

That same day, Grindeanu waited for Mureșan at the PSD headquarters until 5:00 p.m. Because Mureșan did not show up, the Social Democrat leader again asked him to resign his mandate, arguing that he did not truly want the position of prime minister and that, under these circumstances, he could not secure the PSD’s votes. Mureșan said he was confident that he would speak with Grindeanu in the coming days, “on an equal footing.”
