Sorin Grindeanu: “PSD is not running, I am not running after meetings with Siegfried Mureșan”

PSD will no longer seek meetings with designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan, the party’s leader, Sorin Grindeanu, said on Thursday, after Mureșan failed to honor an invitation to discuss the government program at the party’s headquarters.

Grindeanu criticized the document sent by Mureșan on Wednesday evening, saying that it contains only “guidelines” and cannot be considered a government program. The PSD leader said that he would be away from Bucharest, but that his colleagues in the party leadership are available for dialogue if the designated prime minister presents a complete program.

The response comes after Mureșan said that Grindeanu could not decide “at what time and where” the meeting should take place. The two discussed the matter on Wednesday and had agreed to negotiate PSD’s support, but the Social Democrats waited for him for approximately two hours at the party headquarters, without him showing up.

Asked whether PSD lawmakers could still vote to approve the cabinet, Grindeanu said that this possibility was “extremely remote,” accusing Mureșan of pursuing a political game.

Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan indicated on Wednesday on B1TV the reason why he did not show up at the PSD headquarters. Mureșan claims that no meeting had been scheduled for a specific time or at a specific location, and that he felt it would have been natural for discussions regarding the Government’s investiture to take place in Parliament.

The government supported by the PNL, USR, and UDMR has 170 votes, while at least 233 are required for approval. Without the support of the PSD and AUR, the chances of the Mureșan cabinet securing a majority are minimal.
