Siegfried Mureșan called Sorin Grindeanu to ask for his vote on the “PSD proposals included in the Government Program”

Designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan announced that he contacted PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu again on Monday morning, before the PSD National Political Council meeting, and sent him a document containing social-democratic proposals included in the governing program of the future Executive. Mureșan argues that, under these circumstances, a PSD vote against the Government would be politically motivated.

According to Mureșan, the document lists measures taken from the PSD’s priorities in areas such as energy, defense, reindustrialization, budgetary discipline, state reform, incomes, education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure. The commitments include developing energy projects, using SAFE funds for the Romanian defense industry, eliminating the minimum turnover tax starting in 2027, reducing the deficit to below 3% of GDP by 2030, and reorganizing state-owned companies.

The program also provides for investments in education and healthcare, support for young people and families, measures for agriculture and irrigation, as well as accelerating infrastructure projects. In foreign policy, it includes joining the OECD, prioritizing relations with the United States, and preparing negotiations for the 2028-2034 European budget.

Mureșan says he is willing to discuss the program, the formation of the Government, and solutions to the political crisis with the PSD leader. The PSD National Political Council met online on Monday, and confirmed that the party will not support the proposed Executive.

A week earlier, the PSD leadership had recommended rejecting the Mureșan Government.
