PSD asks designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan to relinquish his mandate

The Social Democratic Party is calling on designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan to resign his mandate, arguing that he does not have enough votes to secure approval from a parliamentary majority. The request was made in a post published on the PSD’s official Facebook account, amid negotiations to form the new government.

The Social Democrats described the formation of the Mureșan government as a “farce” and accused the National Liberal Party (PNL), Save Romania Union (USR) and Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) of focusing on dividing up positions while Romania is facing urgent problems. The PSD maintains that the three parties are negotiating portfolios without taking people’s difficulties into account and denounces what it calls “amateurism and arrogance.”

In its message, the PSD says that “the math is not on” the designated prime minister’s side and calls on him to quickly give up his mandate. The party argues that Romania needs a government with full powers, capable of governing for citizens, not for positions.

PNL, USR and UDMR have outlined the first version of the future cabinet, but negotiations have not been finalized. According to Digi24 information, the main disputes concern the ministries of Energy, Health, Justice and Transport, as well as the deputy prime minister positions.
