UDMR, warning for Siegfried Mureșan: He should resign his mandate if he does not have a majority

UDMR President Kelemen Hunor suggests that designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan should resign his mandate before the vote in Parliament if he fails to secure the 233 votes needed for the Government’s investiture. The statement was made on Monday, at Parliament, after the PSD leadership decided not to support the new Executive.

Kelemen Hunor stated that the current formula of the former coalition no longer has a majority at this time. UDMR continues discussions with PNL and USR and is awaiting details about the economic program and the priorities of the Mureșan Government. The Union is to decide at a meeting of its own whether it will support the investiture.

The UDMR leader warned that a plenary vote with only 160–170 lawmakers would prolong the political crisis and send a negative message externally, especially in the context of the visit to Romania by the Standard & Poor’s rating agency. He specified that the only real chance for the Mureșan Government is for PSD to change its position.

Siegfried Mureșan was designated on Thursday by President Nicușor Dan to form the Government. On Friday, he announced that he would also try to obtain PSD’s support, but the party’s National Permanent Bureau decided on Monday not to support the proposed Executive.
