Daniel Zamfir, leader of the PSD senators, said Friday on Digi24 that the party categorically rejects the idea of a government rotation and will not accept proposals from designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan. Zamfir described the option as “an absolutely ridiculous gesture” and argued that PSD contributed to the dismissal of the Bolojan Government because of the economic policies it implemented.

The PSD senator said the party cannot support continuing the political program associated with Ilie Bolojan, which he said had brought Romania into its most serious economic situation since the Revolution. He cited the major differences between the PSD’s vision and the policies of the PNL, Bolojan wing, and USR.

Zamfir said PSD will officially discuss the situation at a meeting scheduled for Monday, but anticipated that it would not support any proposal coming from Siegfried Mureșan or Dominic Fritz. He accused Mureșan of acting against Romania’s interests and said he would not be accepted by PSD for the position of prime minister.

President Nicușor Dan is due to sign the decree appointing Siegfried Mureșan on Saturday, and the document is expected to be published on Monday in the Official Gazette. From that moment, the period of no more than ten days for requesting a vote of confidence from Parliament will begin.
