PSD President Sorin Grindeanu announced on Monday evening that the party’s lawmakers would not cast a single vote for the government proposed by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan at Wednesday’s investiture meeting. At least 233 votes are required to approve the Cabinet.
Grindeanu accused the designated prime minister of arrogance, nerve, and unwillingness to engage in dialogue with the PSD, the largest parliamentary party. The Social Democratic leader claimed that Mureșan’s nomination was “a mockery” and that the entire procedure had caused Romania to waste time.
Siegfried Mureșan had previously stated that Grindeanu’s return to Victoria Palace could trigger new protests.
“We are not afraid of absolutely anything. I believe that this ‘hashtag’ bubble has increasingly deflated. People eventually realize that it is just slogans. People realize that there is absolutely nothing behind these slogans. People see that every day they are living worse and worse,” the PSD leader replied.
