The PSD leadership will meet on Monday, at 10:30 a.m., at its central headquarters in Kiseleff, to decide under what conditions it will support the government led by designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu. The Social Democrats are calling for the restoration of a stable majority and say they will not support a PSD minority government.
The PSD sent Luca Niculescu a list of priorities that should be included in the government program. The party is expected to decide whether these objectives are sufficient for lawmakers to vote in favor of the new Cabinet.
The Social Democrats want a governing formula supported by a stable majority, together with the PSD and UDMR, but negotiations are complicated by the liberals’ position. The PNL announced that it no longer wants to be part of a government alongside the PSD and that it will move into Opposition.
The Social Democrats’ decision will be made in the context of the formation of the new Executive, which depends on parliamentary support and agreement on the government program. Without a clear majority, the government led by Luca Niculescu could face difficulties securing the investiture vote and adopting legislative projects.
