Claudiu Manda announces how PSD wants to secure the votes needed to form the new Government

PSD Secretary General Claudiu Manda said Tuesday that the Social Democrats are putting forward Sorin Grindeanu for the position of prime minister in the event of a minority government or one built around the PSD. Manda specified, however, that the party is also willing to discuss another prime minister if a broader coalition is formed.

The PSD is seeking a majority of at least 233 votes in Parliament and says it is prepared to negotiate with all pro-Western parties. Manda said that the Social Democrats hope to receive support including from the PNL and USR, but warned that forming a government led by Grindeanu would be difficult without UDMR's support.

“We want to be part of this arrangement,” said the PSD leader, emphasizing that the party wants to contribute to overcoming the difficult political and economic situation.

The parties are expected to be invited to Cotroceni Palace on Wednesday for final consultations on forming the new government. President Nicușor Dan could announce the name of the prime minister-designate on the same day.
