PSD President Sorin Grindeanu criticized on Monday evening the new nomination for prime minister made by President Nicușor Dan and announced that the Social Democrats would analyze the proposal on Tuesday, at a meeting of the National Permanent Bureau.
Grindeanu argued that the appointment of Luca Niculescu, a state secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “continues to defy parliamentary mathematics” and fails to take into account the party that won the election. The PSD leader said that the party would make its own decisions and would neither participate in nor provide “blank-check votes” for a new political formation.
The PSD is calling on the prime minister-designate to publicly present the composition of the future Government and the main measures to revive the economy, protect purchasing power and maintain the deficit targets. Grindeanu warned that if Niculescu continues the austerity policies associated with the Bolojan Government, the alternative could be the organization of snap elections.
Nicușor Dan designated Luca Niculescu on Monday to form the Government, following consultations with the parties and parliamentary formations at Cotroceni Palace. It is the fourth nomination for prime minister, after the Bolojan Government was dismissed by a no-confidence motion on May 5.
