The PSD leadership is set to grant the party president, Sorin Grindeanu, a broad mandate to negotiate with designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu. The decision is being considered at a meeting of the PSD’s National Permanent Bureau, convened at the party’s headquarters on Șoseaua Kiseleff, amid the formation of the future government.
According to political sources cited by G4Media, the Social Democratic leaders will not vote, at this stage, either to support or reject Luca Niculescu. They are expected to approve a mandate for discussions, while the party leadership will subsequently decide the PSD’s position, depending on the outcome of the negotiations.
After Niculescu’s designation, Sorin Grindeanu stated that the PSD would neither participate in nor provide “blank checks” for a new political arrangement. He called on the designated prime minister to publicly present the government’s composition and the main measures for reviving the economy, protecting purchasing power, and maintaining the deficit targets.
Grindeanu warned that if the future government continues the policies promoted by Ilie Bolojan, the alternative could be the organization of early elections.
