Al Arabiya has obtained a copy of the final draft of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. The two parties have established a preliminary framework that includes several essential provisions.
Provisions included in the preliminary agreement:
• Extending the ceasefire for 60 days, with the possibility of renewal
• Reopening the Strait of Hormuz for international navigation, ensuring the free passage of commercial ships and oil tankers
• Allowing the Islamic Republic of Iran to resume the sale and export of oil under the interim agreements agreed upon by the two parties
• Iran commits to taking technical and security measures to ensure the safety of navigation.
• In return, the U.S. will reduce restrictions on Iranian ports and provide sanctions waivers to allow Iran to export oil
• Negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear program will continue during the de-escalation period, with the aim of reaching long-term agreements
• Consideration will be given to suspending or relaxing some of the sanctions imposed on Iran in the oil sector
• A period of 30 days will be allocated for the implementation of logistical and technical details related to the resumption of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz
• An initial period of 60 days will be allocated for negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program
• The release of certain frozen Iranian assets in the first phase of implementing this agreement, with discussions to follow regarding the subsequent release of remaining Iranian assets
• Returning to the number of ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz and the maritime traffic levels prior to the escalation of the conflict
• The two parties commit to gradually lifting measures and restrictions related to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days
• The two parties will continue to discuss military and security agreements regarding the presence of U.S. troops in the vicinity of Iran
Currently, discussions for the agreement are tense in the context of recent U.S. attacks on targets in southern Iran.
