PNL denies that there are discussions within the party or a group supporting the suspension of President Nicușor Dan. The formation’s spokesperson, Ionel Bogdan, said on Monday that the information appearing in the press is false and that such an initiative would cause political instability at a time when Romania needs solutions.
The liberals’ reaction comes after PNL deputy Alina Gorghiu, who is critical of the party leadership and of Ilie Bolojan, claimed that some liberal leaders were considering suspending the president. She specified that the information had allegedly emerged “from sources.”
Ionel Bogdan also rejected the scenario according to which Ilie Bolojan would resign in order to put pressure on the head of state. He maintained that such information is part of a disinformation mechanism and accused PSD of fueling “fake news,” citing an alleged political rapprochement between PSD and AUR.
PNL parliamentarian Vasile Blaga also stated that the party had not discussed suspending Nicușor Dan, describing the information as “rumors”. The PNL leadership says that the formation will support political stability and will not initiate proceedings to suspend the president.
