MoND announces the Burebista 26 exercise: low-altitude flights and military convoys throughout the country / “Don’t panic, these are training exercises”

The Ministry of National Defence announces that, from September 14 to 25, the Romanian Air Force will conduct the “Burebista 26” exercise across Romania. The training involves units from the Romanian Air Force, Land Forces and Naval Forces, as well as the Special Operations Forces.

During the exercise, there will be low-altitude flights and the movement of military equipment and personnel along land routes. The Ministry of National Defence informs citizens that aircraft may be heard flying lower than usual, while military convoys may be seen on the roads. The activities are part of a training program and are not a cause for panic.

The purpose of the exercise is to prepare Romanian Air Force units to plan and conduct combat operations as part of an air operation, in an integrated and joint-forces context.

The exercise takes place after the demonstration held in August at Borcea 86th Air Base, where F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft carried out an Air Policing mission. The stages of the intervention were presented at the time, from alerting the crews and preparing the aircraft to takeoff and airspace surveillance, in accordance with NATO procedures.
