Clashes broke out between protesters and law enforcement after a large anti-government demonstration held on Saturday in Belgrade, against President Aleksandar Vucic.
Students demanded the organization of early parliamentary elections and respect for the rule of law, accusing the government of crimes and corruption. A speaker, an electrical engineering student, emphasized that elections represent an opportunity for an "honest government, freedom, and a dignified life." The movement, led by students who have occupied universities in Serbia for a year, has gained the support of millions of citizens who accuse President Aleksandar Vucic's administration of negligence and corruption. Protesters are calling for a peaceful change of government, considering that the next parliamentary elections are not scheduled until the end of 2027.
After the conclusion of the rally, clashes occurred between protesters and police, resulting in 23 arrests.
Vucic accused the demonstrators of violence, and the government restricted rail traffic to limit participation in the protest.
