Aleksandar Vučić declared on Saturday that he will resign in the next two weeks and announced the organization of early presidential and parliamentary elections. Vučić, who is in his second and final term, made the announcement in front of his supporters at a pro-government rally in Belgrade. Although his term expires in 2027, the president did not specify the exact date of his resignation or when he will dissolve parliament, a necessary step for calling early elections.

This decision comes after a year and a half of anti-corruption protests, triggered by a tragic incident at the train station in Novi Sad, where 16 people died. Recently, students in Novi Sad commemorated the victims and called for early general elections, highlighting their dissatisfaction with the government.
