Donald Trump suggests that the U.S. could remain in Iran and could keep the oil

US President Donald Trump suggested on Sunday in Ireland that the United States could remain in Iran and keep the country’s oil after the war ends. He made the statement at the Irish Open golf championship, where the American leader attended a sporting event.

Trump said he expects the war in Iran to end this year, possibly immediately after the midterm elections scheduled to take place in the United States on November 3. He said Washington would accept only “the right deal” and would not support an agreement it considers unfavorable.

The US president also claimed that Iran is constantly calling for peace negotiations, an assertion Tehran has previously rejected. At the same time, he portrayed maintaining dialogue with Iran as an alternative to a complete US withdrawal.

Trump compared the situation with the agreement the United States reached with Venezuela in August and said that revenues from Venezuelan oil would have covered the costs of the war several times over. He also predicted that gasoline prices would fall rapidly after the conflict ends, as tensions in the Middle East continue to affect oil markets.
