Farmers to protest in Victoriei Square on Tuesday / Gendarmerie announces checkpoints and possible traffic restrictions

Farmers will organize a protest on Tuesday, September 15, in Victory Square in Bucharest, dissatisfied with the Government’s measures and the situation in agriculture. The organizers estimate that approximately 200,000 agricultural producers from the crop and livestock sectors could participate in the demonstration.

The Bucharest Gendarmerie, the Police, and the other institutions responsible for public order will set up checkpoints at the entrances to Bucharest. The authorities will inspect shipments of animals and agri-food products arriving in the capital for the protest to determine whether they comply with legal provisions.

Law enforcement forces also announce dialogue teams, intended to maintain contact with participants and prevent incidents. People carrying blunt objects will not be allowed to enter the demonstration. Participants are urged to report inappropriate behavior and not to intervene directly in such situations.

Depending on the number of people present, road traffic in the Victory Square area could be restricted. The Traffic Brigade recommends that drivers avoid the area for the duration of the protest.

The authorities are also taking into account the context of the farmers’ demonstrations in July, when incidents occurred between protesters and law enforcement forces, and gendarmes used tear gas.
