Shoving between shepherds and law enforcement at the farmers’ protest in Victoriei Square / Gendarmes used tear gas

Several participants shoved each other and got into a fight with the gendarmes on Tuesday, during the farmers’ protest in Victory Square, while law enforcement used tear gas sprays.

Approximately 3,000 farmers are currently protesting in Victory Square to draw attention to the difficult situation facing Romanian livestock farming, as well as agriculture.

News.ro reports that among the protesters are people wearing T-shirts with Călin Georgescu’s picture.

Romania’s independent photojournalism agency Inquam Photos also reports that farmers and supporters of the sovereigntist movement are protesting in front of the Government building.

Earlier, the Capital Gendarmerie announced that participants had forced their way through the gendarmerie cordon, entered, and blocked road traffic on Pavel D. Kiseleff Road.

Farmers are reportedly mainly dissatisfied with the European Commission’s decision in June to extend the ban on exports of sheep and goats from Romania to third countries until December 31, 2026.
