In Athens, a pilot project has been implemented to reduce road accidents and support police activity through the use of AI cameras. These cameras detect various violations, such as speeding, running red lights, not wearing seat belts, using mobile phones while driving, and improper use of emergency lanes. Evidence is recorded in the form of encrypted videos and images, ensuring their integrity. In the first days of operation, a single camera recorded over 1,000 violations, generating a total of 2,500 fines from the 8 installed cameras. The Ministry of Digital Governance in Greece plans to expand the network to 2,000 fixed cameras and 500 mobile ones, which will also monitor unauthorized use of bus lanes.
