The Bucharest Streets Administration announced on Tuesday, September 8, the implementation of its first pilot project based on smart technology to improve pedestrian safety. The system was installed in Sector 1, at the intersection of Chitila Road and Prahova Street, in an area affected by heavy traffic, where drivers may notice pedestrians too late.
According to the institution, the solution developed together with sFlows aims to transform the way pedestrians are protected while crossing, through an active signaling and warning system. The Bucharest Streets Administration says that conventional crosswalks are no longer sufficient given the heavy traffic in Bucharest and that new technologies can help reduce the risk of accidents.
The authorities also published a video showing how the system works. For now, the project is a pilot, and its effectiveness will be evaluated after implementation.
Meanwhile, the Bucharest Streets Administration announced that, during the weekend before the start of the new school year, it cleaned and sanitized the Basarab pedestrian passageway. The stairs, elevators, platforms, floors and Plexiglas windows were cleaned, including the area previously used as shelter by homeless people.ctlty
