Nearly 30 intersections and congested areas in Bucharest will receive additional monitoring on Monday, the first day of the 2026–2027 school year, to improve traffic flow and increase safety around schools. The Road Brigade, the Bucharest Municipal Police and local police officers from Sectors 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 will direct traffic from early morning, when students, parents and employees returning from leave will congest the city’s roads.
Crews will be present at vulnerable points such as Colentina Road, Obor Square, Mihai Bravu Boulevard, Nicolae Titulescu Boulevard, 13 Septembrie Road, Timișoara Boulevard, Leu Square and Grozăvești Bridge. In Sector 3, monitoring will also cover the area around Dudești-Pantelimon Road and Cățelu Railway Station Road.
Authorities warn that the presence of police officers will not eliminate all traffic jams, especially if parents stop in the first lane, at intersections or on pedestrian crossings to drop off their children. Drivers are advised to leave earlier and choose permitted stopping places, even if this means walking for a few minutes. For short distances, walking and public transport are recommended.
Traffic could be slightly less congested following the full reopening of Basarab Bridge and the lifting of restrictions in the Cantemir–Horoscop Restaurant area, in Unirii Square. Work is continuing, but without the closures that affected traffic during the summer period.
