The Greek government intends to adopt a legislative project that will prohibit the use of electric scooters by individuals under the age of 17, in response to the increasing number of accidents involving minors.

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Giorgos Kotsiras, announced that the law will be put to a vote in Parliament on July 21. Along with age restrictions, it is also proposed to increase fines for unsafe driving of electric scooters, as well as the requirement for insurance for accidents.

Recent statistics show that approximately 400 young people are injured annually in electric scooter accidents in Greece, and some incidents have resulted in fatalities. The measures are part of a European trend to enhance the safety of users of these vehicles, in the context of the increasing number of users.

Other European countries, such as Germany, have different regulations, allowing the use of electric scooters from younger ages.

In Romania, discussions regarding tightening legislation in this area are ongoing.
