PNL Deputy Ionel Bogdan presented, on Friday, the proposed amendments to the PNL Statute, which will be put to a vote at the party congress on Sunday.
According to the new proposals, the party will have a single first vice-president, a general secretary, and eight executive vice-presidents, who will receive responsibilities established by the National Political Bureau. Additionally, the presidents of the county branches will become ex officio members of the national leadership, and at the regional level, vice-presidents will be elected to represent the local organizations.
Ionel Bogdan argued that the new structure is more coherent and efficient than the structures used in the past, stating that the position of first vice-president should be held by a single person to ensure clear coordination of the party's political activity: "What more can we explain? Normally and logically, there should be one first vice-president and the rest should be vice-presidents. This is a logical structure."
Regarding Ciprian Ciucu, Ionel Bogdan stated that "he can run, according to the PNL Statute, for the position of first vice-president, on Ilie Bolojan's motion," and emphasized that "he hopes he will do it."
This reorganization aims to strengthen the political positions of PNL in the future, according to the PNL deputy.
Statute amendments in a tense context within PNL
The current first vice-presidents of the party are Adrian Veștea, Nicoleta Pauliuc, and Ciprian Ciucu, while Cătălin Predoiu resigned from his leadership position on Wednesday.
On the other hand, these proposed amendments come in the context where Adrian Veștea, first vice-president, was appointed prime minister by President Nicușor Dan, without consulting the party. Subsequently, in the BPN, the leadership expressed its opposition to supporting the Veștea Government, and that PNL parliamentarians who will vote or who will be part of the Veștea Government should be excluded from the party.
On Thursday, 16 party parliamentarians from the pro-Veștea group filed a suspension of these decisions at the Ilfov Tribunal. The 16 parliamentarians are Monica Anisie, Andrei Baciu, Sorin Cîmpeanu, Mihai Culeafă, Alina Gorghiu, Ion Iordache, Aneta Matei, Ciprian Pandea, Nicoleta Pauliuc, Alexandru Popa, Răzvan Prișcă, George Scarlat, Ionuț Stroe, Mihail Veștea, Sebastian Mihai Rusu, Eduard Tatian Mititelu. The Ilfov Tribunal ruled in their favor and suspended the BPN decisions within a few hours.
