2026 Emmy Awards: Matthew Rhys makes history with two Emmy trophies won on the same night / List of the main winners

Matthew Rhys entered Emmy Awards history after winning two leading-role trophies in Los Angeles on Monday evening, in the miniseries and comedy categories. The actor was rewarded for his performances in the Netflix production “The Beast in Me” and the Apple TV production “Widow’s Bay”.

The achievement marks a first in the ceremony’s 78-year history: Rhys is the first actor to win both leading-role awards at the same ceremony. Alongside the trophy he won in 2018 for the drama series “The Americans”, he also becomes the first actor to have won Emmys in all three major leading-role categories.

Actress Jean Smart also set a record after winning the award for best actress in a comedy series for the fifth consecutive season, for her role in “Hacks”. She is the first woman to be rewarded for acting in every season of the same series.
