The 78th edition of the Emmy Awards, the equivalent of the Oscars in American television, will take place on Monday at 5:00 p.m. in Los Angeles (3:00 a.m. Tuesday in Romania).
The HBO Max medical series The Pitt leads the rankings with 25 nominations, including in the “Outstanding Drama Series” category and 13 acting nominations, while Noah Wyle is competing for the award for Outstanding Lead Actor.
Hacks ranks second, with 24 nominations for its fifth season, a record for a comedy. Jean Smart could win her fifth Emmy for this series and the eighth award of her career.
Among the productions with a significant number of nominations are also Widow’s Bay, with 19, Pluribus, with 18, and Beef, the most-nominated limited series or anthology, with 16.
According to some experts, Apple TV’s horror comedy “Widow's Bay” could spoil “Hacks’” moment of glory. Matthew Rhys, the star of “Widow's Bay,” is the favorite for the award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, while Kate O'Flynn is a strong candidate in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category.
The main drama categories feature The Pitt, Pluribus, The Diplomat, and Slow Horses, while Hacks, The Bear, Abbott Elementary, and Widow’s Bay are nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. Zendaya, Carrie Coon, Keri Russell, Sterling K. Brown, and Gary Oldman are among the actors nominated in the main categories.
