Before the news about the next season, the series “The Diplomat” featured prominently at the 2026 Emmy Awards: it was mentioned among the productions with a significant number of nominations and competed in major categories, including acting. In addition, at the same ceremony, Allison Janney won an Emmy for her role in a drama series (“The Diplomat”).
The political series “The Diplomat,” starring Keri Russell, will have a fifth season on Netflix. The announcement comes after the fourth season ended at the G7 summit, where Vice President Hal Wyler, played by Rufus Sewell, was about to speak to journalists before the scene ended abruptly.
Debora Cahn, the series’ creator and showrunner, stated that the story is still in “its intense phase” and is not approaching its end. The fourth season, released on October 15, had eight episodes and reached third place on Netflix’s global chart, ranking in the top 10 in 63 countries. The series has received numerous nominations and major awards, including a SAG Award for Keri Russell and an Emmy for Allison Janney.
