Kawhi Leonard returns to Toronto, the team with which he won the NBA title

Toronto Raptors acquired Kawhi Leonard from the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade finalized after the two teams renegotiated the initial terms of the agreement. The move brings Leonard and the Raptors back together, seven years after the Canadian franchise won the NBA title.

In exchange for Leonard, Toronto is sending Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick to the Clippers, along with two unprotected first-round draft picks, a first-round pick swap, and two second-round selections. To ensure the transaction complied with salary-cap rules, Leonard waived a $7.45 million trade bonus.

The trade was blocked for several weeks amid an NBA investigation into the Clippers' possible evasion of salary rules in connection with Leonard's contract. The league subsequently removed five future first-round picks, fined the club $30 million, and suspended owner Steve Ballmer for one year. Leonard, in turn, received a $700,000 fine.

Leonard won the NBA title with Toronto in 2019 and was named Finals MVP. A two-time champion and Finals MVP, he averaged 27.9 points per game last season.
